Winner of the 2018 Natalie J. Smith Award for Excellence in Program Management

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), congratulates Annette Aguon, Immunization Program Supervisor, for winning the 2018 Natalie J. Smith Award for Excellence in Program Management in the area of state and national vaccine-preventable disease programs.  The award was presented during the Association of Immunization Managers, 2018 Leadership in Action Conference, early June, in San Diego, CA.

This award is the highest form of recognition for Immunization Program Managers. It is established to recognize the contributions of an Immunization Program Manager who has demonstrated the high ideals, innovation and commitment to excellence in immunization practices that characterized Dr. Smith's career. The award recognizes accomplishments and visionary leadership that have had a significant impact on achieving city, state, territory, and/or national vaccine-preventable disease goals.

Through Annette’s leadership, the Immunization Program under the auspices of the Bureau of Communicable Disease Control of the Division of Public Health, also recently received three immunization coverage awards from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Immunization Services Division:

  • Most Improved Coverage Among Children Award (19-35 months old for each of nine vaccinations) from 2013 to 2016
  • Healthy People 2020 Immunization Coverage Award Adolescents Aged 13-17 Years (for four vaccinations), 2016
  • Most Improved Pneumococcal Vaccination Coverage Among Adults Award (Aged 65 years and older), 2013 to 2016
