“Let’s Move! Prevent Obesity and NCDs!” Community Medical Mission
The Filipino Community of Guam (FCG), in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), will be conducting the “Let’s Move! Prevent Obesity and NCDs!” Medical Mission at the Micronesia Mall Center Court, on October 13, 2018, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
Obesity is a Chronic and Non-Communicable Disease (NCDs) that is known to effect on average 12% of the population on Guam. Thus, leading to 5.5% of people who do not know they have diabetes or pre-diabetes. There is an increasing prevalence of Type II Diabetes among our younger generation. The goal of the “Let’s Move! Prevent Obesity and NCDs!” Community Medical Mission is to promote and enhance public’s awareness and knowledge on the prevention and control of obesity and NCDs.
This community health event aims to direct, motivate, and inspire Guamanians to be proactive in preventing diabetes and obesity in our people. It also serves as a reminder for people living with diabetes that assistance is available for managing the disease and preventing further complications. In addition, get free health advice from our health professionals: Dr. Ramel Carlos, Dr. Noel Silan, Dr. Luis Cruz, and Professional Basketball Trainer Eric Dailey. Basketballs will be raffled off between the hours of 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Free health screening will be provided for blood sugar & cholesterol (while supplies last), blood pressure, body mass index, health educational displays and exhibits from various programs and organizations focusing on health promotion and disease prevention.
Participants of the Government of Guam Worksite Wellness Program are welcome to avail of the free health screening and earn 25 raffle tickets.
